To say Greek mythology is vast is an understatement. It's composed of hundreds of stories, big and small, which has led to the creation of countless characters. When adapting the mythology, there are many paths to choose from, and for a story as grand as Lore Olympus with many intertwining myths, a large cast of characters was sure to follow.

The ever-growing webcomic has not only attracted a large and passionate audience for its engaging narrative, but for its strong and colorful cast of characters (literally and metaphorically). Each character was given new life and new twists while still remaining faithful to their mythological origins. Lore Olympus proves that while the characters themselves may be old, they aren't history yet.

10 Thanatos: Flawed But Getting Better

The 10 Best Lore Olympus Characters (1)

Thanatos was not the best person when he was introduced. Among other marks against his character, he had an affair with Minthe behind Hades's back and acted rude toward Persephone when they met. However, over the last season of the webcomic, Thanatos has been working to become a better person by recognizing his unhealthy relationships as well as recognizing his involvement in digging up Persephone's past was a mistake. He began to stand his ground against Minthe and Thetis and when interacting with Daphne, he begins to see the world through wider eyes. It still doesn't forgive what he's done, but it's the mark of a good person to recognize mistakes and learn from them as the series continues.

Daphne is a minor character in the grand scheme of the story, but what little the readers have seen of her shows how great she is. After being an attempted rebound for Apollo, she and Thanatos hit it off. She liked the attention she was receiving, but she knows a bad situation when she sees it.

During her time with Thanatos, Daphne brought out the better parts of him. She helps Thanatos rethink his feelings and the issues he's having. And when running from Apollo, Daphne outwitted him by turning herself into a laurel tree on Demeter's sacred land, where he can't hurt her, but this came at the cost of Daphne being trapped in her new form until Demeter turns her back. Even as a tree, she still has a brave face, holding high the hair clip Thanatos gave her. Her current state may be sad, but it's important to remember laurels are a sign of victory.

8 Cerberus is a Few Steps Ahead of Other Dogs

The 10 Best Lore Olympus Characters (3)

Cerberus may be a bit overlooked at points compared to the nymphs and gods who are spinning the story, but Cerberus is a very good boy. He is the best guard dog the king of the Underworld could ask for, from protecting the house to keeping the gates guarded against mortals and wandering souls alike. Cerberus even left his station in order to protect Persephone from Apollo early in the series. However, beyond his work and a scary face here and there, he's still very cute. It's a softer side of him only Persephone and Hades seem to see. Even with a couple of extra heads and larger size, a dog is still a dog: loyal to the end.

7 Artemis Bows to No One

The 10 Best Lore Olympus Characters (4)

Artemis is not a character without flaws. She can be manipulated at times due to her love for her family and her obliviousness to what is happening behind closed doors. Fortunately, those same flaws are also her greatest strengths. Artemis is loyal to the end, deeply cares for her friends, and protects others to the very end. She's stood up for Persephone many times and is not so ignorant as she may seem. She seeks answers from Apollo when Persephone admits how much she hates him, but she recognizes what her brother says is not the whole truth. Artemis might be a bit misguided, but eventually, her arrow will strike true.

6 Hermes Not Only Makes Quick Quips But Quick to Help Others

The 10 Best Lore Olympus Characters (5)

Hermes is a character who always has a smile on his face. He's excitable, goofy, mischievous, and perhaps a bit impatient. He's also very dependable, from picking up Thanatos's slack ferrying souls to pulling double-time as a godly courier.

However, beyond all the smiles and cheeky lines, Hermes takes situations seriously and stands up for his friends, even if it goes against his job responsibilities. He helped cover up Persephone's act of wrath, confronted Thanatos about digging up what needed to stay buried, and defended Persephone in court. After all, he's the Messenger of the Gods, and he makes sure others get the message.

Through his support, he pushes her out of her comfort zone and helps her overcome many obstacles in her life. At the end of the day, he's the ultimate wingman.

4 Hecate Has a Certain Charm To Her

The 10 Best Lore Olympus Characters (7)

While some characters might get under her skin from time to time (mainly Hades), Hecate always has his back, whether it's comforting him after a bad run-in with Minthe or helping him plot the kidnapping of a nosy reporter. Hecate is very supportive, but she knows when to intervene on others' behalf and call others out on their actions. Readers can't help but be enchanted by this Chthonic goddess.

3 Hades is Both Rich in Character and Story

The 10 Best Lore Olympus Characters (8)

Contrary to popular belief, Hades in Greek mythology is not all that bad of a guy. He still isn't the most popular person, being the God of the Dead (not Death, that's Thanatos's domain), but he was very faithful to his wife and kept his promises.

Lore Olympus stays true to Hades' mythological counterpart and expands upon these elements as the plot unfolds. He's a very somber character at the beginning of the story. His status scared many others away, which made him feel isolated, alone, and willing to settle for Minthe as his queen. However, when Persephone came into his life, he became more open to others--smiling, making quips, etc. He's a very complex and compelling character. Despite his grim job, he's not as soulless as pop culture makes him out to be.

However, her attitude doesn't make her naive or any less powerful than the other gods in the pantheon. Persephone is very aware of both her situation, the intent of others, and her own emotions.
